Uncertainty Settings

Last updated 19 days ago

The Uncertainty Settings screen allows you to view, manage, and edit the uncertainty values associated with your emission calculations.
This section helps ensure that the total uncertainty calculations presented in reports are generated accurately.

Carbondeck assumes a default uncertainty value of 7% for both emission factors (EF) and activity data (AD).
However, users can update these values based on calibration certificates, measurement reports, or other verified sources.

To access this section:
Settings → Calculation Settings → Uncertainty Settings

Uncertainty Configuration

To view or edit uncertainties, you must first define the configuration parameters.

Steps:

  1. Select Facility

Choose the facility for which you want to review or update uncertainty values.

  1. Select Scope

Filter by Scope 1, Scope 2, or Scope 3.

  1. Select Category

Categories under the selected scope are listed in the dropdown.
(e.g., Stationary Combustion, Purchased Electricity, Business Travel, etc.)

After making these selections, the Uncertainty Results table will automatically update.

Uncertainty Results Table

This table lists all activities based on the selected facility, scope, and category.

Displayed columns include:

  • Emission Source

  • Activity Data (e.g., kWh, liters, km)

  • EF Uncertainty (%)

  • AD Uncertainty (%)

  • Result (tCO₂e)

  • Start – End Dates

  • Options (⋮)

At the top of the table, the Cumulative Uncertainty (%) is displayed.
This value represents the combined uncertainty of all activities within the selected category.

Additional Features:

  • Search: Search by activity name.

  • Filters: Filter results by different criteria.

  • Date Range Filtering: View uncertainty data for a specific date interval.

Editing Uncertainty Values

You can update EF (emission factor) and AD (activity data) uncertainty values for each individual activity.

Steps:

  1. Click the ⋮ (three dots) next to the activity you want to edit.

  2. Select Edit.

  3. The Edit Uncertainty panel appears on the right side.

The panel contains two fields:

  • Emission Factor Uncertainty (EF Uncertainty): Enter a verified EF-related uncertainty value if available. Default value: 7%

  • Activity Data Uncertainty (AD Uncertainty): Enter a real measurement uncertainty value, such as device calibration error, measurement accuracy, etc. Default value: 7%

  1. After updating the values, click Save.

Result

  • The cumulative uncertainty is recalculated automatically.

  • The updated uncertainty value appears in the results table.

Bulk Uncertainty Editing

You can update all uncertainty values within a category at once.

Steps:

  1. Click Select all on this page at the top of the Uncertainty Results table.

  2. All rows will be selected.

  3. Click Edit.

  4. Enter new EF and AD uncertainty values for all selected items.

  5. Click Save.

Deleting Uncertainty Values

Uncertainty is not stored as a separate record, so there is no deletion process.
However, values can be reverted to the default 7% if needed.

Notes and Important Information

  • Carbondeck’s default EF and AD uncertainty values are 7%. Unless edited, all calculations use this value.

  • Updated uncertainty values only apply to the selected activities. They do not affect other facilities or categories.

  • After each update, the cumulative uncertainty is recalculated automatically.

  • This screen only displays activities for which calculations exist. If no calculations have been performed, the uncertainty list will be empty.
